Cheapo USB capture device

I recently realised that HDMI capture devices had got cheap. Until recently you would expect to pay around £80 for one, but then some adverts for sub £20 ones started appearing (sub £10 if you're happy to wait for shipping from China). "USB 3" HDMI capture device I found a cheap USB 3 one that claimed to capture 1080p@60 and a USB2 one that was very similar but only managed 1080p@30. I don't particularly have a use for one but figured for such a cheap price it might be handy to have one kicking around my box of bits. USB 2 HDMI capture device After a brief amount of googling I discovered the "USB 3" device was actually made by a company called WiiStar . The chipset used is Macrosilicon as displayed by running lsusb under linux. dmesg output when attached to linux What modes does it support ? Thanks to the linux command v4l2-ctl we can ask it.
